Ckay Biography: Ekweani Chukwuka, better known as Ckay, is a Nigerian singer, songwriter, and record producer from Anambra state who grew up in Kaduna.

He was born in Kaduna state to Dr. and Mrs Ekweani and was raised in the northern part of the country before moving to Lagos state to pursue his music career.

According to CKay, his father, who was a choir composer in their family church, inspired him to begin making music.

CKay began producing beats and writing songs for a Christian group when he was 13 years old. His musical obsession was so strong that he ran away from home to pursue his musical dreams.

In Lagos, where he relocated in 2014, he was signed as a production intern with Loopy Music, a record label that would soon merge with Chocolate City, allowing CKay to work with notable artists such as Dice Ailes, Ice Prince, MI Abaga, and Kenya’s Victoria Kimani.

Ckay was introduced to music at the age of seven by his father, who was a choir conductor in their local church at the time, and by the age of thirteen, he had already begun producing and writing music.

According to him, he began taking music seriously after graduating from secondary school, and he formed a music group called Cre8tive Music with two of his friends.

The 25-year-old moved to Lagos in 2014, and by 2015, he was working as a production intern for Chocolate City. He was fully signed as an artiste in August 2016.

He collaborated with MI, who was the CEO of Chocolate City Music at the time, and his debut studio productions include “Third Mainland Bridge” by MI x Moti Cakes, “The Box” by MI x Pryse, and “Give Them” by Koker.

Following the release of his second project, CKay moved to Warner Music South Africa, where he released his third EP “Boyfriend.”

“Container,” a song he released under Chocolate City before moving to a new record label, was one of his breakthrough songs.

After going viral on TikTok in 2021, the song “Love Nwantiti,” which was recorded and released in 2019, became a major hit in Africa.

Following the song’s viral challenge on TikTok, people from the United States, the United Kingdom, Australia, and Germany have taken to it.

CKay confirmed his departure from Chocolate City via social media in May 2021.

His other notable songs and collaborations include “Nkechi Turn Up,” “Love Nwantiti,” “Gaddemit,” “Chinekeme,” “Last Call,” and “Gmail,” which features Dremo, a DMW rapper.
